GET TO KNOW DR. COHEN
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr. Cohen emigrated to the United States in 1979. He attended the University of Arizona for his Undergraduate and Medical Degrees. His Orthopedic training included the University of Arizona Orthopedic Residency program followed by a Fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s in Chicago, Ill. specializing in advanced techniques in Joint Replacement Surgery.
After 22 years in private practice at Tucson Orthopedic Institute, Dr. Cohen recently relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, joining the Abrazo Health Care System and Arizona Sports Medicine Center. He performs his surgery at Abrazo Scottsdale Hospital and works closely with several Physical Therapy practices to optimize recovery and rapid return to daily function. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient status with minimal time in the hospital and incorporating innovative anesthesia protocols to help reduce pain, post-operative down time and enhanced recovery.
He has been a paid consultant for Stryker since 2009 and has been involved with implant design, Direct Superior Hip Replacement education and instrument design, MAKO Robotic development and education, physician education, and numerous national and International Symposia.
Dr. Cohen has participated in numerous volunteer medical missions including disaster relief efforts in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake, joint replacement surgical missions to Vietnam twice, Antigua, Guatemala with Operation Walk. He has also served the people in Quito, Ecuador twice by performing free knee replacement surgery on two separate missions.
